After working for 20 years, the activity of ViaStoria (Center of Transport History) is devoted to the study, the restoration and the adequate use of the historical transportation routes of Switzerland, in concert with the University of Bern.
As a spin-off company of the University of BernViaStoria developed the Inventory of Historical Traffic Routes in Switzerland (IVS), 25.000 historical routes, inventoried, classified, photographed and mapped, from 1984 to 2003.
ViaStoria investigates the transport and traffic history; gives technical advice in order to maintain the routes of historical importance to Communes and Cantons; proposes a tourist valorisation, developed thanks to the Cultural Roads program in Switzerland.
In 2004 the Cultural Road project in Switzerland has been started by ViaStoria, with the aim to develop a network between the historical roads of Switzerland and identify or integrate twelve Via routes and an increasing number of ViaRegio routes, all on historical paths and roads.
Among these routes, you can discover the paths of Via Francigena and Saint-Jacques in Switzerland.

The aim of the program is the adequate use of historical ways and a tourist offer including lodging, transport, museums visiting and tasting of the typical products.
ViaStoria carried out different supports of communication, to promote the Switzerland territory and its network of historical ways: magazines, tourist guides, stamps and postcards.
