192 pages, with unedited images and news telling the story of the Vercelli Basilica

This book is meant to be a belated tribute to one of the men who have written the story. Without Guala Bicchieri’s diplomatic mission (ca 1150 – 1227, cardinal and Italian diplomat) the fates of England and Europe would have been certainly much dfferent:

· The English crown would have been given to the heir of France and Great Britain would have become some sort of a French colony

· The English people would maybe not obtained the confirmation of Magna Carta and, as a result, England would not have been remembered as the country whose democratic principles have inspired the governement since Middle Ages

Nevertheless, Guala Bicchieri has not received the gratitude and acknowledgement that his career would deserve.

Only recently, the city of Vercelli, which has been the cardinal’s hometown, has rediscovered and promoted the achievements of its son, whose English mission has the contours of a fascinating medieval novel where the plot, military zeal and religious struggles have as background the England’s court.
