The historic capital of the olive tree in Morocco “Meknassa Zaitouna hosted from 7 to 9 March 2011 the 5th celebration of the “Mediterranean Days of the Olive Tree.
It is five years now, since those days were first organized by the Agro-pole Olivier ENA Meknes, a key partner of the initiatives of the "Routes of the Olive Tree" and for a long time an active member of the "Routes of the Olive Tree" network.
This event has continued to evolve since the beginning, to better meet the needs of professionals involved in the sector of olive oil production and to enable them to take advantage of recent achievements, as well as technical and technological innovations in the olive oil sector.
The opening of the 5th celebration was chaired by Mr. Mohamed Faouzi, Wali of the Region of Meknes-Tafilalet, in the presence of numerous personalities of the international olive oil sector and representatives of the embassies of Spain, Italy, France, Greece and the United States of America in Morocco.
The growing involvement of the various regional, national and international stakeholders, many of whom participate in the "Routes of the Olive Tree", is a strong indication of the relevance of this event and particularly of the strong support to all efforts that Agro-pole Olivier Meknes has undertaken in recent years to promote the olive oil sector regionally and nationally, through various technical, scientific, cultural and tourism activities related to the olive tree and olive oil.
The Mediterranean Days of the Olive Tree in Meknes became, during three days, a real forum in which nearly 32 experts and olive oil specialists from Mediterranean countries came and shared their experiences around the theme "Strategies for Marketing and Technological Innovations for the Production of Quality Olive Oil, Valorization of Byproducts and Production of Energy ", a theme that fits perfectly with the actual concerns of the olive oil sector. Indeed, the current increase in the production of olive oil and the strengthening of global interest in olive products has prompted many countries to make special efforts to improve production both quantitatively and qualitatively.
This 5th celebration was another milestone on the path of sustainable development and a contribution to the ongoing reflection on strategies to implement for the development of the olive oil sector.
On this occasion, Mr Ilias Vlachos, Professor at the Agriculture University of Athens and member of the Scientific Commitee of the Foundation "The Routes of the Olive Tree", intervened on "Marketing Strategies for olive oil in the local and international market: the case of Greece. "This intervention advocated a more effective marketing orientation for the actors
in the olive oil sector in Greece, needed to enhance the effort of Greece to create quality food products with high added value and their competitiveness through the internal market and the global consumption.
