Five cultural routes have been invited directly by the European Commission as they include Pavia in their itinerary: the Via Francigena, the Route of Saint Martin of Tours, the Cluny sites, the Casa dei Sites and the Saint Augustine route. The EICR has presented other routes to illustrate the great diversity of the Council of Europe's programme: Iter Vitis, The route of Jewish heritage, the Mozart Ways, the Route of the Olive Tree, the Phoenician’s Route, the Prehistoric Rock Art Trail, the Route of Thermal heritage and towns, TRANSROMANICA and the Route of Cistercian Abbeys.

• The Council of Europe participated at the public conference “Cultural and religious routes", on 7 June 2012, where speakers included the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, Antonio Tajani, and Anne Brasseur, author of a Parliamentary Assembly report on the religious dimension of Intercultural dialogue.

• Two other important events were an “Info session on thematic-tourism routes where 8 routes presented their different transnational themes and a seminar focused on the results of two years of cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union on cultural routes. The first outcomes of the Joint Programme on Cultural Routes 2011-2013 rolled out during the seminar.

• Finally, the CoE coordinated two exhibition stands where it showcased the routes and the Council of Europe’s programme, including leaflets, posters, brochures and films.
