The member of the procession bear a cross (weight : 25 kilos).
The origin of the rite : 1625, when Father Jacobus Clou, who was ill, recovered his good shape thanks to the walk of a penitent towards Ackegem.
In order to thank the person, Father Clou organised the same procession in his parish.
Nowadays thousands of tourists are coming for the event. 500 persons are performing and reading Holy texts (3.30 pm).
